Why I endorse Gigi Bowman for New York State Senate

Last week Liberty Candidates founder Gigi Bowman announced that she would be seeking the office of New York State Senate, District 5. Her candidacy comes in the middle of some of the most turbulent times that both New York and the United States of America have seen yet. There is an incredible amount of public frustration and anger over all of the political, economic, social and even environmental chaos going on right now and very few candidates or parties are able to effectively articulate or empathize with what the voters are experiencing right now. Right now the public at-large sees itself victimized, reactive and on the defense against so many things going wrong all at once. It is in this time of great peril that we need hard chargers and proactive spirits like Gigi Bowman at all levels of government, especially the local legislatures.

The astronomer Carl Sagan famously said, "Somewhere, something incredible is waiting to be discovered." I know in my heart that Gigi Bowman has what it takes to help America re-discover its incredible calling to be a place where dreams again come true, where children can grow up to become healthy, happy, long-lived men and women that owe no debts to one another except the debt of love and where government works for the people, not against them.

Bowman in her official announcement to supporters proclaimed "I am stepping up today to run for office because I cannot sit back and watch any longer as our beautiful country and the freedoms and liberties that our founders fought so hard for are diminished daily by political parties and administrations that are working against the people not for the people. While we are struggling to afford what we hope are fresh, healthy food for our children, our legislators spend their days doing photo ops, ribbon cuttings and running photo contests about our environment instead of educating us about what is happening to our community - most likely they don't even know themselves! Why? Because they are not working for us! They are working to stay in office with no checks and balances. Like a winning lottery ticket they receive a huge salary, expenses and unending medical and life benefits for themselves and their families and that's all they care about. This must end!"

These are the words not of a professional politician or a careerist legislator but of a woman of deep moral resolve whose heart is broken by sorrow and whose speech overflows with the compassion of a mother and the moral convictions of a true patriot. These are the words of a woman we can trust and a leader we need to hear. It is a refreshing call to action and a promise of service.

If you visit the New York State Senate's official website, they prominently feature a photograph of Martin Luther King and an excerpt from his Letter From Birmingham Jail in which he said, "The time is always right to do what is right."

Well friends, it is right to reclaim life, liberty and happiness. It is right to stand for principle, courageously, even if others say you haven't got a chance, because as Dr. King said in that same letter, "right defeated is stronger than evil triumphant." It is right - and the time is now - to support and to vote for candidates like Gigi Bowman.
